Posts and the barn gallery
Every barn in Saddle has a shared photo gallery — a scrapbook of moments posted by its members. You'll find it on the Barn tab: the Gallery tile shows the newest photos fanned out like polaroids, and tapping the tile opens the full gallery. Everything you post is visible to the other members of that barn, and only to them.
Find the gallery
- Open the Barn tab.
- If you belong to more than one barn, switch to the barn you want first — each barn has its own gallery.
- Tap the Gallery tile. It opens a grid of every photo ever posted to the barn, newest first. Scroll down to go further back in time — the full history is there.
If the barn has no photos yet, the tile invites you to pin the first photo and start the scrapbook.
Add a photo
- In the gallery, tap Add photo.
- The Add photo sheet opens straight onto your recent photos. Pick one, or:
- Take photo — opens the camera. Saddle asks for camera access the first time you tap this.
- Browse library — opens your full photo library.
- Review your choice. Tap Change photo to swap it for a different one (your current pick is kept until you choose a replacement — tap Keep current photo to back out of swapping), or the X to remove it and close.
- Add a caption if you like — it's optional.
- Tap Add to gallery.
The sheet closes and your new photo appears at the top of the grid right away, with a small badge while it's still uploading. Posts are one photo each — to share several photos, add them one at a time.
A couple of things to know:
- The first time the sheet opens, your phone asks for photo library access so the recent-photos strip can fill in. On iOS you can grant access to only selected photos and manage that selection from the sheet.
- If you close the sheet after choosing a photo, Saddle asks Discard photo? so you don't lose a camera shot (or your caption) by accident.
View photos
Tap any tile in the grid to open it full screen. From there:
- Swipe to move between photos.
- The header names the photo — Your Photo for your own, or the poster's first name for everyone else's.
- The byline shows who posted it and when, plus its like count.
Pull down on the grid to refresh it with the latest photos.
Like a photo
Tap the heart pill on a full-screen photo to like it, and tap again to unlike. Like counts appear on the photo's byline.
Save a photo to your device
You can download any barn photo to your phone:
- Long-press a photo in the grid, or tap the ⋯ button while viewing it full screen.
- Choose Save to Camera Roll.
The first time, your phone asks for permission to save photos. You'll see Saved to camera roll when it's done.
Delete a photo
You can always delete your own photos:
- Long-press the photo in the grid, or tap ⋯ while viewing it.
- Choose Delete Photo and confirm.
Deleting is permanent — the photo is removed for everyone in the barn and can't be undone.
What barn owners can do
Barn owners can moderate their barn's gallery: the Delete Photo option appears for them on every member's photos, not just their own. If your photo is removed by the barn owner, it's gone for the whole barn. For more on roles and ownership, see Barns.
Posting without a connection
The gallery works offline. When you add a photo with no signal:
- The photo appears in the gallery immediately with a badge showing it hasn't uploaded yet.
- The upload starts automatically as soon as you're back online — you don't need to reopen the app to the same screen.
- If an upload fails, the photo shows an error badge; open it (or long-press it) and choose Retry Upload.
See Offline and sync for how Saddle handles offline changes in general.
Who sees my photos, and do they get notified?
- Only members of the barn you posted to can see a photo. There is no public feed.
- Barn members get a notification when you add a photo; tapping it opens that photo in the gallery. You get the same when others post. You can tune this in notification settings — see Notifications.
Tips
- The Gallery tile on the Barn tab always shows the newest photos — a quick glance tells you whether anything new has been posted.
- Photos you take with Take photo inside Saddle aren't saved to your phone automatically. If you want a copy, post it, then use Save to Camera Roll.
- In more than one barn? Double-check which barn is selected on the Barn tab before you post — photos go to the barn whose gallery you opened.
