Barns

A barn is your community in Saddle — the people you ride with, plus everything you share: a calendar, a photo gallery, documents, trails, and barn weather. The Barn tab is your barn's home screen. You can belong to more than one barn and switch between them anytime.

Create a barn

  1. Open the Barn tab. If you don't have a barn yet, tap Create or Join. If you already have one, tap your barn's name at the top to open the barn menu, then tap Create a barn.
  2. Give your barn a name and add a photo if you like (tap the camera on the avatar).
  3. Tap the Location row and drop a pin on the map where your barn is, then tap Confirm location. A location is required — it powers barn weather and lets riders at your barn discover it (if you turn that on).
  4. Choose whether the barn is Discoverable (see below). It's off by default.
  5. Tap Publish barn.

You become the barn's owner and its first member.

Join a barn with an invite

Every barn has a 6-character invite code, shown as a QR pass card the owner can put up in the tack room or send to you directly. From the Barn tab, tap Create or Join (or your barn name, then Join a barn) and pick one of:

If someone texts you an invite link, just tap it — Saddle opens straight to the join screen.

After scanning or entering a code you see a preview of the barn (name, location, member count). Tap Request to Join. Joining always needs the owner's approval: you'll see Request Sent, and the barn owner reviews your request. While it's pending, your request appears under Pending Requests in the barn menu, where you can tap Cancel if you change your mind. You get a notification when you're approved.

Find the barn you're at

Discovery is built as a privacy feature: it finds the barn you're standing at, not barns near you. Your search only returns a barn if you're physically there (within about 250 meters of its pin), so nobody can sit at home and browse a map of barns and who rides where.

  1. From the join menu, tap Find the Barn I'm At.
  2. Allow location access if asked — discovery needs your precise location to know where you're standing.
  3. If a discoverable barn is at your spot, it appears under "You're at". Tap it to see its public profile, add an optional message for the owner, and request to join.
  4. If you see No barn at this spot, head to the barn and tap Check again.

Barns only show up in discovery if their owner has turned on the Discoverable switch in barn settings ("Riders at your barn can find it and request to join"). When it's off, the barn can only be joined by invite code.

Invite someone to your barn

Tap your barn's name at the top of the Barn tab, then tap Invite (also available via Invite Member in the members list). You'll see your barn's invite pass — a QR code with the 6-character code printed on the stub ("Scan or enter this code"). Let the other rider scan it in person, or tap Share Invite to send the invite link by text, email, or any share option on your phone.

Anyone with the code can request to join, but no one gets in without approval — so it's fine to hang the pass on the barn wall.

Approve or decline join requests

If you own the barn, new requests appear at the top of the members list under Pending Requests (open the Barn tab and tap the members tile). Each request shows the rider's name and any message they included. Tap Accept to add them as a member or Decline to turn them down. A declined rider can request again later. You also get a notification when someone asks to join.

Switch between barns

Tap your barn's name at the top of the Barn tab to open the barn menu. All your barns are listed — tap one to make it the active barn. The whole tab (weather, events, gallery, members) follows whichever barn is selected.

Members and roles

Open the members list from the Barn tab to see everyone in the barn, along with how many horses each member keeps there. The barn's owner has an Owner badge; everyone else is a member.

Tap a member to open their profile. From there you can:

What barn owners can do

The owner runs the barn. Only the owner can:

Members can invite others by sharing the pass, but every invite still goes through the owner's approval.

Edit your barn's profile

Tap your barn's name, then Barn settings (owners) to change the barn's photo, name, location, and the Discoverable switch. Members see Barn info instead, with the barn's details.

Leave a barn

  1. Tap your barn's name at the top of the Barn tab.
  2. Tap Barn settings (or Barn info), then the menu, then Leave Barn and confirm.

When you leave:

If you're the owner and other members remain, ownership passes to the longest-standing member. If you're the last member, the barn is closed.
