Ride safety

Ride Safety lets you build a safety group — a small circle of riders and friends who look out for each other. While you ride with location sharing on, everyone in your group can see your recent location on a map, so if a ride runs long they know where to find you. The connection works both ways: you see them, they see you.

Find it on the Profile tab, under Riding → Ride Safety. The location sharing toggle also appears on the Ride tab before you start a ride.

Add someone to your safety group

Go to the Profile tab and tap Ride Safety.
Tap My safety group, then Add to Group.

You have three ways to connect:

Show your QR code. Your personal QR code appears with a "Scan to connect" pass. When another rider scans it in their app, you're connected right away — no approval step, since handing someone your code is the invitation.
Share your link. Share the invite link from the same pass by message or email. When the other person opens it, they see a preview of who's inviting them and can tap Connect.
Find a barn member. Tap Find a Barn Member to browse people from your barns, then tap Connect next to a name. This sends a request they approve or decline. Their row shows "Request sent" until they respond, and you can cancel from the same row.

You can also connect from a barn member's profile — open a member from your barn's member list and use the Ride Safety row there.

Scan someone else's code

From the Add to Group view, use Scan QR to scan another rider's code. You'll see a preview of who they are, then tap Connect.

Respond to a request

Incoming requests appear at the top of your safety group list with Approve and Decline buttons. You'll also get a notification when someone invites you — tapping it opens Ride Safety.

Turn on Share with safety group — either on the Ride Safety screen or on the setup card on the Ride tab before you start recording.

While the toggle is on and you're recording a ride:

Your position is shared with your safety group every minute or two as you move.
Your group sees your most recent points — roughly the last 15 minutes of your trail — plus your last known position, not your full route history.
On your ride map, small pins mark each shared point, so you can see at a glance what your group is seeing. A pin that fails to send (no signal) shows as failed; sharing resumes automatically when you're back in coverage.

The toggle is sticky — it stays on for future rides until you turn it off. It locks while a ride is in progress ("Locked while riding"), so a change takes effect on your next ride.

After your ride ends, your last shared points stay visible to your group as your last known location until your next ride starts a fresh trail, or until you clear them.

See where a group member is

Open Ride Safety → My safety group. Each connected member's row shows their status:

Riding now — they've shared a location within the last 20 minutes.
Last seen [time] — their most recent shared location is older.

Tap a member to open a map of their last known location and recent trail. If they haven't ridden with sharing on, you'll see a note that they aren't sharing location right now.

Check what your group can see

On the Ride Safety screen, the Your location row (shown once you've shared at least one point) opens a full-screen map of your own shared points, with a "Last shared" time — exactly what your group sees.

If you're offline, the newest point is flagged so you know your group's view has gone stale until you're back in coverage.

Clear your shared location

From the Your location map, tap Clear. Your group stops seeing where you've been, and your location reappears on your next ride with sharing on.

Remove someone from your group

In My safety group, tap the ⋯ button on a member's row and confirm Remove. You'll no longer see each other's location while riding. Removing is the only way to stop sharing with a specific person — the connection is all-or-nothing for each member.

Who can see my location?

Only accepted members of your safety group — never your whole barn, and never the public.
Only while the Share with safety group toggle is on. With it off, you can still ride and record normally; nothing is shared.
Every connection is mutual and takes both sides' consent: either an approved request, or one rider deliberately sharing their QR code or link and the other redeeming it.
Your group sees recent points and your last known position, not your complete ride history. Your full recorded rides stay private to you.

Tips

If the toggle is on but your group is empty, the Ride Safety screen warns you: "No one will be alerted — connect with someone." Sharing to no one protects no one, so add at least one person.
Riding buddies make the best safety group — since the connection is two-way, you cover each other on solo rides.
Location sharing needs a cell signal to reach your group. In dead zones, pins queue as failed and your last successful point stands as your last known location — another reason to clear a stale trail only when you mean to.
