Account and profile
The Profile tab (the rider icon, last in the tab bar) is home for everything about you: your profile identity, your events and rides, ride safety, app preferences like themes and units, and account actions such as signing out or deleting your account. The bell in the top corner opens your notifications.
Edit your profile
- Open the Profile tab.
- Tap Edit profile (your email shows underneath so you always know which account you're signed in as).
- In the editor:
- Tap the camera button on your avatar to add or change your photo.
- Tap your name and type — it saves when you finish.
- Tap Bio to write a short bio. You can clear it later with the ✕ on the row.
- Your email is shown but can't be changed here.
Each field saves on its own as you go — there's no single save button to remember.
Find your events, rides, and safety settings
The Riding section gathers everything you do in the saddle:
- My Events — every barn and private event in one list. See Events.
- My Rides — your full ride history. See Rides.
- Ride Safety — who can find you while you ride: your safety group and location sharing. See Safety.
Change the app's theme
The Appearance row in Preferences is a two-speed control:
- Tap the row or flip the switch to jump between the flagship light theme (Saddlesoap) and dark theme (Slate).
- Press and hold the row to open the full theme picker with every theme: Saddlesoap, Slate, Newmarket, Hedgerow, Greatcoat, and Gilet.
Each theme carries its own light or dark mode — choosing a theme also chooses its mode, so there's no separate dark-mode setting. Themes apply instantly while the picker stays open, so you can judge the change live.
Choose your units
Tap Units in Preferences. The row's subtitle shows your current picks (for example "Miles · mph · °F · 12-hour"). You can set:
- Distance — miles or kilometers (elevation follows this choice)
- Speed — mph, km/h, or m/min (meters per minute, the eventing pace unit)
- Temperature — Fahrenheit or Celsius (this drives Weather too)
- Time format — 12-hour or 24-hour
Changes apply immediately everywhere in the app. Your rides keep their recorded data — units only change how it's shown.
Turn notification alerts on or off
The Notification alerts switch in Preferences controls banners and sounds while you're using the app. It doesn't stop notifications from arriving — for what Saddle notifies you about and how to manage push notifications on your device, see Notifications.
Check app permissions
Tap Permissions in Preferences. The row's subtitle tells you at a glance how many permissions are allowed. Inside, each permission shows its status (Allowed, Denied, or Not Set) and what it's used for:
- Location — GPS ride recording, the barn location picker, and nearby barns
- Camera — QR code scanning, profile and post photos
- Photo Library — selecting photos for posts, horses, and profiles
- Save to Camera Roll — saving photos to your device
- Push Notifications — barn activity alerts and post updates
- Motion & Activity (Android) — ride gait detection (walk, trot, canter)
Tap a row to grant a permission, or to jump to your device settings if it was previously allowed or denied. The list refreshes automatically when you come back from Settings.
The Pro plan
A few features are part of the Pro plan:
- Premium map styles on ride and trail maps
- The trail route editor, with drawing and snap-to-paths — see Trails
- The hourly weather forecast — see Weather
There's no in-app upgrade right now — if you're interested in Pro, email support@saddle.app. On the free plan, Pro-only options simply don't appear.
Read the privacy policy and terms
The Legal section links to the Privacy Policy ("What we collect, and what we don't") and the Terms of Service. Both open the current hosted documents.
Sign out
Scroll to the bottom of the Profile tab and tap Sign out. The app asks you to confirm — you can sign back in any time with the same account.
Delete your account
Deleting your account is permanent, but there's a 30-day grace period before anything is actually removed.
- On the Profile tab, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete account. (You need an internet connection for this — the row is disabled offline.)
- The first step explains what happens:
- Your horses, rides, photos, documents, and posts are permanently removed.
- For each barn you own: if it has other members, ownership passes to its longest-standing member; if you're the only member, the barn is deleted with your account.
- Your account will be permanently deleted on the date shown — 30 days out.
- Tap Continue, then verify it's you: enter your password, or if you signed in with Google or Apple, type DELETE.
- Confirm in the final dialog.
You're signed out everywhere, and your account is scheduled for deletion.
Change your mind during the 30 days
Just sign back in. You'll land on an Account scheduled for deletion screen showing the deletion date, with two choices:
- Restore account — cancels the deletion and keeps everything exactly as you left it.
- Keep deletion & sign out — leaves the deletion scheduled.
After the 30-day grace period ends, deletion is permanent and can't be undone.
Can't access the app?
You can also request or cancel deletion from the Saddle website at saddleapp.redrail.io/delete-account, or email support@saddle.app and we'll process the deletion for you.
Tips
- The subtitles on the Units and Permissions rows are live summaries — you often don't need to open them to check your current setup.
- Long-press is the secret to the Appearance row: a quick tap just flips light/dark, holding shows every theme.
- On an iPhone with a paired Apple Watch, an Apple Watch row appears in Preferences with your pairing status and a switch to use your watch on rides. Flipping it mid-ride takes effect on your next ride.
- Preference changes like units save on your phone right away and upload automatically when you're back online. Deleting your account is the one action that needs a live connection.
