Trails

A trail is a route shared with a barn — a copy of one of your rides' routes, published for every member to browse, follow, and plan events around. You'll find a barn's trails on the Barn tab (the Trails map tile on the barn profile) and in the trail book on the Ride tab.

What's the difference between a ride and a trail?

Your rides are personal — barn members never see them. A trail is the shareable version of a route: it carries the path, total distance, and an approximate time, but not your speed, gait breakdown, or exact ride stats. And it's a copy: once shared, the trail stands on its own — you can delete the original ride, trim it, or re-edit its route later without changing the trail (and editing the trail never changes your ride).

You don't need a trail to re-ride your own route — every ride has its own Follow route button (see Rides). Trails exist for sharing.

Open one of your completed rides.
In the actions menu, tap Share with Barn.
The Share with barn sheet opens on a review screen with a route preview:
- Name (required) — tap to type a name. This is what members see in the barn's trail book.
- Share to — your barn. If you belong to more than one, tap to pick which.
- Approx duration — a rough planning time for other riders, pre-filled from your ride time rounded to the nearest 15 minutes. Barn members see this estimate instead of your exact ride time.
- Route (Pro plan only) — opens the route editor so you can tidy the ride's route before sharing. The preview shows exactly what will be published — your edited route if you've made one, else the recorded track.
Tap Share.

You land on that barn's trails list with your new trail at the top, and barn members get a notification about the new trail.

Browse trails

From the Barn tab: tap the Trails map tile on the barn profile. The barn's trails open as a grid of small map cards — tap one to see its detail.
From the Ride tab: tap the trail-path button next to Start to open your ride journal, then use the Mine · [barn name] toggle at the top. Mine shows your rides; the barn name shows that barn's trails. Tap the barn name again (or the caret) to switch barns.

The trail detail shows the route on a map with its distance and approximate time, plus who shared it and when.

Follow a trail

On a trail's detail, tap Follow Trail. You land on the Ride tab with the trail armed — a Following chip shows the trail name and how far you are from the trailhead. Start your ride and the trail draws on your map as a reference line. If you drift off the path, you get an alert, and you're congratulated when you reach the end.

Tap the ✕ on the Following chip (or the stop button while riding) to stop following — your ride keeps recording.

Your own rides don't need a trail to be followed — every ride's detail has its own Follow route button (see Rides).

Save a trail for offline use

On a barn-mate's trail, the actions menu has a Save trail row ("Keep it available offline"). Saving keeps the full route on your phone so you can follow it without a connection, and the trail won't be cleaned up from your device. The row flips to Saved — tap again to unsave.

Trails you created yourself are always kept on your phone automatically, so the save row only appears on other people's trails.

A save doesn't outlive your access: if the trail is deleted, removed from the barn, or you leave the barn, the offline copy is removed from your phone.

Edit a trail

If you created the trail, its detail screen has an Edit details row where you can change the name and approximate duration. Changes save immediately, field by field.

Edit the route (Pro)

With the Pro plan (see Account and profile), trail creators also get an Edit route row that opens a full-screen map editor. It edits the trail's own copy of the route — the source ride is never affected. (The same editor opens from a ride's detail to edit the ride's route, before or instead of sharing — see Rides.)

Move a point: tap a point on the route, then drag it — the line reshapes live. For precision, pan the map so the center crosshair sits where you want, then tap Move here.
Add a point: tap a ghost dot between two points, or pan and tap Insert. With the start or finish selected, Insert becomes Extend to lengthen the trail.
Delete a point: select it and tap Delete.
Snap to paths: matches the whole route to nearby trails and roads in one tap. If nothing suitable is nearby, the button tells you.
Follow paths: a toggle that routes each edit you make along the path network instead of a straight line.
Undo / redo / reset live at the bottom, next to a live distance readout showing how much your edits changed the length.

Tap Save (or Done during trail creation) to keep your changes, or ✕ to discard them. Snapping and path-following need a connection.

Take a trail back — or move it

On the trail's detail (or its source ride's detail), the row reads Shared with [barn name]. Tap it to remove the trail from the barn — it becomes private (only you can see it) and barn members no longer see it; members who saved it lose their offline copy. A private trail can be shared again later from the same row.

What can a barn owner do with members' trails?

A barn owner can remove any member's trail from the barn. The trail isn't deleted — it goes back to its creator's private trails, and everyone else (including the owner) loses access. Only the creator can share it again.

Plan an event around a trail

Start the event from the events overlay, then use the form's Trail route row to attach any trail you can see, so the group ride is planned around that path. See Events.

Who can see my trails?

Barn trails: every member of that barn.
Private trails (taken back from a barn): just you.
Trails never expose your ride stats — members see the route, distance, and your approximate duration estimate, nothing else.

Tips

Give trails deliberate names ("River loop", "North gate out-and-back") — the name is how members find them in the trail book.
Tidy the route before sharing (Pro): edit the ride's route first and the share publishes the edited version.
Save a barn trail for offline before heading somewhere without signal, so the route stays followable.
The approximate duration is meant for planning, not bragging — round it to what a typical rider would take.
